I believe it was Steven King who advised, ‘write what you know’.
I have always taken that to heart and expanded it to ‘write where you live’.
I have been fortunate enough to live in several locations in our awesome country, but for me, forever more, when I am writing, my heart lies in Nova Scotia with its rich history and heritage. Stories simply spring to life as I think about the versatile terrain, my experiences and the people.
When I was younger, I simply lived there like anyone else, never appreciating what surrounded me. Then I was lucky enough to snag a position at the local radio station, CIGO, now known as the HAWK. I had the very best boss and my job consisted primarily of promoting the station by driving around to various locations and reporting on what they had to offer the tourists.
Say no more, best job EVER!
Beach parties, parades, Ceilidh, whale watching, deep sea fishing – you name it, I was there.
As we approach festival season, I want to take the next few weeks and re-explore some of those off the beaten path events. Experiences, which have inspired me over the years, creating memories to be treasured.
Remember is all about the Food – the Drinks (how many/how much) – the Music – the Dancing (or the falling down, depending on the how many/how much)
