The Picnic ... an excerpt from Hit ‘n Run
She walked to the counter suddenly awkward. I should have waited for him to come to the door. Way too eager to open the door before he even knocked. Lorna waved her hand at the packed picnic basket, turning her head in Mitch’s direction. “I have a lot of food for just two people.”
“I have a healthy appetite,” he said, walking towards her. He was the predator, she the game.
As the quickening began in her stomach, she laid her palms flat to the counter, bracing. The stubble on his cheeks made him appear all the more dangerous. His nose came level with hers, nostrils flared as he inhaled deeply. “I wonder if you taste as good as you smell,” he murmured as his tongue peeked out to trace her upper lip. “Yum.”
Black pupils consumed the blue of his eyes and her pulse danced. His left hand covered hers on the counter, pinning her in place as he brought his body closer. The open neck of his shirt gave her a clear view of the forest of hair that grew on his chest. His smile was a complete contrast to the menacing look in his eyes. “Your house is very nice,” he said in a voice very low. “Would you like to take me on a tour?”
I want him like I’ve never wanted anything else. “Maybe later,” she pivoted her body to press against his, reaching forward to nip his lip with her teeth. He’s not the only one who can take charge and get what he wants. Her core pulsed with longing.
Mitch tilted his head back in surprise. “No?”
She leaned her head back from his, licking her lips as she allowed her appetite to grow. “Maybe later,” she repeated staring him dead in the eye as she trailed her fingers along his firm abdomen to begin unbuttoning his shirt. His eyes flew from hers down to focus on her lips, the hungry look of the hunter about to strike evident in every angle.
